1.Spotify sued for $1.6 Billion by Wixen Music Publishers
Music streaming company Spotify was sued by Wixen Music Publishing last week for allegedly using thousands of songs, including those of Tom Petty, Neil Young, and the Doors, without a licence and compensation to the music publisher.
Wixen, an exclusive licencee of songs such as "Free Fallin" by Tom Petty, "Light My Fire" by the Doors, (Girl We Got a) Good Thing by Weezer and works of singers such as Stevie Nicks, is seeking damages worth at least $1.6 billion (roughly Rs. 10,000 crores) along with injunctive relief.
2. LG Signature Series will Launch in India on 5th Jan 2018
LG is all set to announce its latest Signature Series in India at an event in Mumbai on January 5. The Signature Series by LG has products ranging from OLED TVs to washing machines, refrigerators, air purifiers, and smartphones. While some Signature Series products are already available in India, there is no confirmation as to what the South Korean brand is expected to launch in India later this week. Notably, LG had launched a Signature edition smartphone based on the LG V30. This could possibly be announced at this week's event.
3. TRAI Issues Interconnectivity Rules, Fixes 30-Day Deadline for Entering Agreements
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday issued a consultation paper seeking stakeholders’ view to formulate the National Telecom Policy 2018. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), through its letter dated August 21, 2017 requested the TRAI to suggest its policy inputs for formulation of National Telecom Policy – 2018.
4. Logan Paul Deleted his Controversial Video Of Japanese Suicide Forest
YouTube responded on Tuesday to a controversial graphic video of a dead body posted by one of its most popular stars over the weekend.
YouTube star Logan Paul uploaded a 15-minute video footage featuring the dead body of a man who committed suicide in a notorious forest in Japan to a YouTube channel followed by 15 million subscribers.
The video showed Paul and his friends walking through the Aokigahara forest in Japan when they stumbled upon the body of an apparent suicide victim, Xinhua reported.
5. Lenovo K320t Smartphone : Launched in China
It's just the first week of 2018 and smartphone makers have already started adding devices to their existing smartphone lineup. One of the early birds is Lenovo which has launched a K series smartphone called the K320t in China.
The handset is already up for pre-booking through JD.com with a price tag of CNY 999 (approximately Rs 9,900) and will go on sale on January 4.
6. Amazon Shipped over 5 Billion Products in 2017 via Prime members
Online retailer Amazon.com said on Tuesday it shipped over 5 billion items worldwide via its subscription-based Prime service in 2017 while adding more new members than ever before.
The e-commerce giant, which revealed its Prime shipment numbers for the first time, did not give comparable full-year shipment number for 2016.
7. Humanoid Robot : Robot Sweat Like Humans
Tokyo: Scientists have developed a new humanoid robot that can perform exercises like sit-ups and push-ups, and even sweat, just like humans.
The robot has an artificial perspiration system and anatomically resembles the musculoskeletal intricacy of a human boy.
Developed by scientists at the University of Tokyo in Japan, the robot called Kengoro can be used as crash test dummies, and to design muscle analytics for athletes and sports.
